This year TED prize went to Jamie Oliver, a young chef that many of us have seen on TV.

His message is quite important.

Our society is forgetting a lot of important value and pratices that are important to preserve.

One of them is the knowledge about food and cooking. I believe that many diseases could be prevented if people eat well.

Art and gift

Yesterday, Seth Godin wrote about art. I'm quoting:

My definition of art contains three elements:
Art is made by a human being.
Art is created to have an impact, to change someone else.
Art is a gift. You can sell the souvenir, the canvas, the recording... but the idea itself is free, and the generosity is a critical part of making art.
By my definition, most art has nothing to do with oil paint or marble. Art is what we're doing when we do our best work.

I highlight the third reason. These days i've stumbled up a phrase that stuck and says: "The gift is to the giver and comes back to him..." (Walt Whitman)

Today i find a project a designer. it's called A Thousand Great Ideas. He shares his notes with the world. Althought some of the ideas never became real i think there is art in it. So the art becames a gift, an inspiration opportunity.

I use to advise my students to develop three competencies. One of them is communication (the others are foreign languages and information techs).

For comunication i mean writing, talking and presenting (with graphical content if needed).
